At SOLID, concrete is one of the architectural surfaces we live to care for. Each year, our concrete leadership team has the opportunity to join 58,000 other industry professionals who are passionate about the craft at World of Concrete (WOC) in Las Vegas. The show has grown significantly since it started in 1975, and now spans more than 745,000 net square feet and hosts more than 1,500 exhibiting companies. Manufacturers and experts across the concrete industry showcase their latest and greatest products at WOC – equipment, tools and technology that can help us better meet our clients’ concrete needs.

Our Team at World of Concrete

Representing SOLID at this year’s WOC were crew members Scott Calabritto (National Technical Director), George Gooch (Regional Manager – Concrete Services), Roy Bowman (National Manager – Concrete Services), Jim Crippen (East Coast Concrete Manager), and Chad Nance (National Technical Manager).

Never Stop Learning

The SOLID team had a single mission at WOC: to expand our knowledge of the latest technology, equipment, tooling and products in the concrete industry. Our concrete leadership team stayed busy attending professional development classes and earning certifications:

• To ensure SOLID has senior concrete craftsmen in the eastern, central and western regions of the U.S., several of the group attended the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) Concrete Slab Moisture Certification at the show. The certification will help SOLID’s concrete team improve concrete moisture testing results and ensure successful polishing and coating applications.
• Roy and Jim went above and beyond to earn the World of Concrete Master Certificate after completing extensive continuing education hours during the show.
• Chad is furthering our Safety First initiative following his participation in a Train-the-Trainer event at World of Concrete. Chad is now qualified to train other SOLID team members on how to properly inspect and operate aerial boom and scissor lifts.

Beyond earning certifications, the team participated in classes to sharpen their skills in budgeting, project management and teamwork, and attended industry events like the annual Polishers Luncheon. At the luncheon, industry panelists discussed the use of surface measurements to define the aesthetics of a polished concrete surface, what testing criterion are available and the opportunities for standardizing expectations.

The SOLID concrete crew also had the chance to meet with contractors, manufacturers and industry pros at WOC. The team brushed shoulders with peers as well as the “movers and shakers” of the concrete industry.

Every member of the SOLID team is committed to our core value of BE EXPERT. We never stop learning, and our participation at World of Concrete was just one more way we are continuing to develop expertise in all we do.
